Bulwell Riverside Joint Services Centre, 2008 - 2012
Nottingham
Nottingham City Council, Nottingham City PCT and GN LIFT, commissioned me as Lead Artist to provide an imaginative and engaging approach to embedding the arts within the brand new £22m Joint Service Centre for Bulwell, situated four miles north of Nottingham City Centre. A document 'Art at the Heart' made series of recommendations for artworks, locations, artist and budgets for interior and exterior works and two residencies.
Working in collaboration with the design team since from early stages when the process of purchasing buildings and demolition was due to take place. The stakeholders and design team consisted of CPMG Architects, FPRC Landscape, Laing O'Rourke, community workers, residents, providers and users of existing NHS and Nottingham City Council services. The brief included developing a strategy to provide an overall creative vision for harmonising artwork within the building and immediate surroundings. Consultation led to a thematic concept that responds to the local community and the natural environment. The document of recommendations 'Art at the Heart' identifies opportunities for artworks, locations, artist recommendations, timeline and budgets from. It also included residencies for film and photography and a number of artist opportunitiesfor creative community events which contributed to the art strategy.
